About Dr. Shirvani

Dr. Nicole Shirvani is a board-certified psychiatrist with a passion for Women’s Mental Health. She uses a compassionate and holistic treatment approach that includes medications and supplements, mind-body practices including sleep, diet and nutrition, and physical exercise.

Through individual assessments, Dr. Shirvani creates a customized plan that blends medications with holistic and lifestyle-based interventions in order to promote healing and resilience.

Dr. Shirvani was drawn to the field of Women’s Mental Health during her training at the Cleveland Clinic. It was during that time she observed how much of an impact the loss of pregnancy can have on a woman’s emotional and physical health and the importance of support during this time. This cultivated a passion for and better understanding of women’s unique experiences including the experience of infertility, pregnancy, and the postpartum period and beyond.

Dr. Shirvani believes in the importance of self-compassion and putting into practice actions that promote resilience.

Accomplishment Highlights

Dr. Shirvani completed her psychiatry residency training at the renounced Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland Ohio where she also served as Chief Resident during her final year of training.

Dr. Shirvani is the primary author of Women’s Health (Fundamentals of Consultation- Liaison Psychiatry: Principles and Practice, 2019) examining the intersection of mental health and the reproductive life cycle including hormonal changes associated with the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and postpartum as well as the menopausal transition.

Dr. Shirvani’s work has also been featured in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, Psychosomatics, and The Journal of Maternal Child Health. Dr. Shirvani has also presented on topics including recognition and treatment of postpartum depression and providing trauma-informed care in the obstetrical setting.
